History & Location:

In 1909s, The Stanley Hotel opened in Estes Park, designed by Freelan Oscar Stanley. After the foundation of Rocky Mountain National Park in 1915, this top notch resort helped make Estes Park into a tourist destination.


It gained notoriety as the inspiration for Stephen King’s horror novel The Shining (1977) in the late 20th century.
